Goldilocks and the Three Bears

curiosityrespectconsequencesclassic tale

Once upon a time, in a cozy cottage in the woods, there lived three bears: a great big Papa Bear, a medium-sized Mama Bear, and a tiny little Baby Bear.

One morning, Mama Bear made a big pot of porridge for breakfast. But it was too hot to eat!

"Let's take a walk in the forest while our porridge cools down," suggested Papa Bear. And so they did.

While they were gone, a little girl named Goldilocks came skipping through the woods. She had golden curly hair that sparkled in the sunlight. When she saw the bears' cottage, she was very curious.

She knocked on the door. No one answered. So she pushed the door open and went inside.

On the table, Goldilocks saw three bowls of porridge. She was very hungry!

She tasted Papa Bear's porridge. "Ouch! This porridge is too hot!"

She tasted Mama Bear's porridge. "Brr! This porridge is too cold!"

She tasted Baby Bear's porridge. "Mmm! This porridge is just right!" And she ate it all up.

Then Goldilocks saw three chairs by the fireplace. She was tired from her walk.

She sat in Papa Bear's chair. "This chair is too hard!"

She sat in Mama Bear's chair. "This chair is too soft!"

She sat in Baby Bear's chair. "This chair is just right!" But then—CRACK!—the chair broke into pieces!

Goldilocks went upstairs and found three beds. She was very sleepy now.

She lay in Papa Bear's bed. "This bed is too hard!"

She lay in Mama Bear's bed. "This bed is too soft!"

She lay in Baby Bear's bed. "This bed is just right!" And she fell fast asleep.

Soon, the three bears came home from their walk.

"Someone's been eating my porridge!" growled Papa Bear in his great big voice.

"Someone's been eating my porridge!" said Mama Bear in her medium voice.

"Someone's been eating my porridge, and they ate it all up!" cried Baby Bear in his tiny little voice.

Then they saw their chairs.

"Someone's been sitting in my chair!" growled Papa Bear.

"Someone's been sitting in my chair!" said Mama Bear.

"Someone's been sitting in my chair, and they broke it!" cried Baby Bear.

The three bears climbed upstairs to their bedroom.

"Someone's been sleeping in my bed!" growled Papa Bear.

"Someone's been sleeping in my bed!" said Mama Bear.

"Someone's been sleeping in my bed, and she's still there!" cried Baby Bear.

Goldilocks woke up and saw three bears looking at her! She jumped out of bed, ran down the stairs, out the door, and all the way home. She never went into anyone's house without permission ever again.

And the three bears? They fixed Baby Bear's chair, made more porridge, and lived happily ever after.
