The Yawning Moon
Have you ever noticed that the moon seems to yawn? It's true! Every night, the moon stretches and yawns, and that's what makes it glow so bright.
The moon's name is Luna, and she has a very important job. She's the one who makes everyone feel sleepy at night.
When Luna yawns, her silvery light spreads across the world like a cozy blanket. First, the flowers close their petals and go to sleep. Then the birds tuck their heads under their wings. The squirrels curl up in their nests, and the rabbits snuggle in their burrows.
Luna yawns again, even bigger this time, and her light reaches into houses. Kittens stop playing and find sunny spotsâwell, moony spotsâto sleep. Puppies stop wagging their tails and dream of chasing butterflies.
And then Luna yawns the biggest yawn of all.
This is the special yawn, the one just for children. Her light peeks through bedroom windows, touching foreheads with sleepy kisses.
"Time for dreams," Luna whispers with each yawn.
Children's eyes grow heavy. Blankets feel extra warm. Pillows feel extra soft.
And as Luna yawns one more time, even she starts to feel sleepy, which is why she slowly crosses the sky, looking for her own bed behind the mountains.
Sweet dreams, little one. Luna is watching over you.
